Weaving by Madi B. was displayed at the 2011 Gifts of Gold art show at Memorial Auditorium in March. Madi is in Mrs. Key's second grade class. Underwood's art teacher is Mrs. Jacobs.
Collaboration Celebration
This year Underwood 4th and 5th graders collaborated on a wonderful project to create a Story Quilt for Underwood Elementary.
In mid-September and continuing in October, artist Susie Wilde lead a series of highly-interactive collaborative writing activities in all three 4th grade classrooms. Wilde’s creative writing process links and builds until students have invented and developed a main character, organized a complete plot, developed scenes, conceived colorful language, and then revised and edited their original story.
In November and December, textile artist Peg Gignoux worked with each fifth grade classroom as well as lead an elective open only to 5th graders. During this elective, students responded to the 4th graders’ story. They learned to see as illustrators as they designed a whimsical textile which is now permanently hanging at our school.
